Honestly, last semester was really depressing for me in matters of design, I literally had no motivation due to lack of learning/teaching in the design classes I had. Also, this is my last/6th year in San Jose State University, and I am pretty much ready to leave this school and move on with my life.... finding a job and start living independently is another story...<br />
<br />
This semester, our final senior project is to work on our portfolio of our best work, and set up a senior show gallery for professionals to see and possibly consider hiring us. Our senior show website is available <a href="http://www.inprocess2015.com/">here</a> in case anyone is interested in seeing who we are.<br />
<br />
I have been working on my portfolio a bit, and based on feedback from last week, I came with this (bear with me):<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Kp0vyS5_gpk/VSRN3S0jWRI/AAAAAAAAAtk/RIO-E1S_B1Y/s1600/Cover%2BPage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Kp0vyS5_gpk/VSRN3S0jWRI/AAAAAAAAAtk/RIO-E1S_B1Y/s1600/Cover%2BPage.jpg" height="247" width="320" /></a></div>
This is suppose to be the cover of my senior interior design portfolio; the idea is to print it on vellum paper to have it on top of card stock paper as seen below.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E9AIra7uM40/VSRONj7x9EI/AAAAAAAAAts/PCXvjKz4nf4/s1600/Semi%2BCover%2BPage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E9AIra7uM40/VSRONj7x9EI/AAAAAAAAAts/PCXvjKz4nf4/s1600/Semi%2BCover%2BPage.jpg" height="247" width="320" /></a></div>
This semi-cover will be have the letters laser etched, I still need to confirm with my professor and classmates if it will be a good idea.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gHzK34UIC3s/VSROgz_3z6I/AAAAAAAAAt0/bmqI-CitS3M/s1600/Table%2Bof%2BContents.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gHzK34UIC3s/VSROgz_3z6I/AAAAAAAAAt0/bmqI-CitS3M/s1600/Table%2Bof%2BContents.jpg" height="124" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is the table of contents of the five projects I picked as my best projects, I am still working on the layout, so expect changes. The first project to present is my hotel project:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is the basic layout that mainly follows with the other projects to be presented. The next project is one of the early projects I did starting in Interior Design, the live and work loft:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a_LNC90OW8c/VSRPYdUhaRI/AAAAAAAAAug/u05LOGmvlEg/s1600/Live%2Band%2BWork%2BLoft%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a_LNC90OW8c/VSRPYdUhaRI/AAAAAAAAAug/u05LOGmvlEg/s1600/Live%2Band%2BWork%2BLoft%2B1.jpg" height="123" width="320" /></a></div>

I feel most of this portfolio should be self-explanatory, it just feels weird not saying anything about it. Following this is a project I did last semester, we had to take an anchorage of the bay bridge and turn it into a spa based on an artist we were given to study and our idea of a relaxation element. I was given Robert Smithson and choose the ocean, or in this case bay water, to develop my design like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--sJYHZDYCQE/VSRQMIiUvRI/AAAAAAAAAu4/cuMK2L1KrKc/s1600/Anchorage%2BSpa%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--sJYHZDYCQE/VSRQMIiUvRI/AAAAAAAAAu4/cuMK2L1KrKc/s1600/Anchorage%2BSpa%2B1.jpg" height="123" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UnCBGYCeNkc/VSRQL9dc6UI/AAAAAAAAAu0/GORls4YJODs/s1600/Anchorage%2BSpa%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UnCBGYCeNkc/VSRQL9dc6UI/AAAAAAAAAu0/GORls4YJODs/s1600/Anchorage%2BSpa%2B2.jpg" height="123" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nyoM7veCq-g/VSRQMMDkS8I/AAAAAAAAAu8/--2bhxu5slA/s1600/Anchorage%2BSpa%2B3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nyoM7veCq-g/VSRQMMDkS8I/AAAAAAAAAu8/--2bhxu5slA/s1600/Anchorage%2BSpa%2B3.jpg" height="123" width="320" /></a></div>
This next one is something I did this semester with three other classmates, we were asked to design something that would be able to 3D print as ceramic in a 3D printer. Our concept was filigree vases, we each had to design our own individually, but be designed so all four could be put together like a family. So far we have only printed them in wood, (first time we tried rubber, but all except mine fell apart), and from what I have heard, they will be available on display and for sale at the Student Union book store at San Jose State (have yet to figure out when).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EbWv26Id9R4/VSRRXLB48vI/AAAAAAAAAvM/78JdYfmgMb4/s1600/LoopVessels%2BVase%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EbWv26Id9R4/VSRRXLB48vI/AAAAAAAAAvM/78JdYfmgMb4/s1600/LoopVessels%2BVase%2B1.jpg" height="123" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This final project is what I like to call the Sweatshop Cafe, another project I did last semester. This project we were only given about a month to design and finish. First we were asked to develop a wallpaper design based off of an industrial item. I experimented with sweatshop workers, and decided to bring the glove item as a feature design for my cafe, which serves a hanging ceiling element and table legs for the assembly line created. My main idea was to give customers the idea of what it is like to work in a real sweatshop, to have your back faced to the person behind you, and a blockade to the person in front of you. Many keep saying this may be my best, which is why I left as the last to be presented.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-APl9lQ62xR4/VSRSVVCYL6I/AAAAAAAAAvc/w1ClYvM8zjU/s1600/Sweatshop%2BCafe%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-APl9lQ62xR4/VSRSVVCYL6I/AAAAAAAAAvc/w1ClYvM8zjU/s1600/Sweatshop%2BCafe%2B1.jpg" height="123" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PywuoN0fb9o/VSRSVYCfGVI/AAAAAAAAAvg/DTe0FXtuijs/s1600/Sweatshop%2BCafe%2B3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PywuoN0fb9o/VSRSVYCfGVI/AAAAAAAAAvg/DTe0FXtuijs/s1600/Sweatshop%2BCafe%2B3.jpg" height="123" width="320" /></a></div>
That concludes my portfolio, there may be adjustments to it before the final. Also for the senior show, we need to make a board of three of our best projects up to display for all to see. Here is how I set up mine so far (changes are to be expected), it consists of the Coral Motile, Live and Work Loft, and the Sweatshop Cafe:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

That pretty much wraps up all I have for now, all kinds of feedback and critics to make this better is most appreciated, I have roughly a month left to finalize all this. Our Interior Design Senior Show will be at the Glass House in downtown San Jose, CA, May 20th (it will be in the evening around 6pm, we are still finalizing the times), so come on down and check out all our work in person.hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-28289259607593605102014-07-07T23:30:00.000-07:002014-07-07T23:49:15.912-07:00Spring 2014 Design WorkI know I have not posted in a while, I've just been a bit occupied with other things due to it being summer break which I kind of needed after a semester of hard work, not to mention going through portfolio review last Fall semester. And for those of you who don't know, for the first time in forever (notice I'm referencing from the Frozen soundtrack) I got a summer job, technically more of an internship for school though still a job I am proud to say I am a part of. Anyway, back on topic, I'm mainly just going to show you all what I have been up to with my spring classes (also because a childhood friend I met up with recently reminded me to update my blog), so here we go.<br />
<br />
One class we had was a series of space planning projects, first starting with an existing building, we worked in groups of 4 to create the plans, elevations, modules, and whatever else we can do to show how much we understand our overall building. This one is known as the Adobe Utah Campus.<br />
Sadly the JPEG file of the whole project is too big to just project, so you're going to have access it through this link and might even have to download it... sorry.<br />
<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5khS4uIpyrzcFRqcmdndkNEMkU/edit?usp=sharing">https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5khS4uIpyrzcFRqcmdndkNEMkU/edit?usp=sharing</a><br />
The second project involved taking the existing space we had and creating something in it, so our group we had to create an open cafe using a special wall we did in another class.<br />
This is a big file too, and it can only be seen by downloading it...<br />
<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5khS4uIpyrzeHVOUmp3WEZ3bjA/edit?usp=sharing">https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5khS4uIpyrzeHVOUmp3WEZ3bjA/edit?usp=sharing</a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6EIznuWGrjE/U7uFx_0QkFI/AAAAAAAAAnM/d7flwsJlSzg/s1600/IMG_1951.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6EIznuWGrjE/U7uFx_0QkFI/AAAAAAAAAnM/d7flwsJlSzg/s1600/IMG_1951.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cUWJg06_n_g/U7uF2jAy2II/AAAAAAAAAnU/Qy770q-INeQ/s1600/IMG_1954.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cUWJg06_n_g/U7uF2jAy2II/AAAAAAAAAnU/Qy770q-INeQ/s1600/IMG_1954.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cu9SlWVn-r0/U7uF7QCdDhI/AAAAAAAAAnc/fj1buau2U-A/s1600/IMG_1956.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cu9SlWVn-r0/U7uF7QCdDhI/AAAAAAAAAnc/fj1buau2U-A/s1600/IMG_1956.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
For both the first and second projects, we had to make a model of part of the building, the model is suppose to represent the atrium of the Adobe Utah Campus, and the close up shot above is part of the open cafe our group came up with. I personally made the walls out of watercolor paper, where I had to do all the cutting and folding in the fourth scale model.<br />
The third and final project for the class was taking an office building, and using the first five floors to fit in the program requirements for a fashion store/office space. Originally we were set in different groups of four at the start, but then we had do the project individually in matters of design.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This last picture are four renderings of 4 out of 7 modules with two overall section cuts and a 3/4 diagram of the entire building. Everything took a lot of time and effort, especially the model making part.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In our other class, we had to experiment with different model making techniques. Our first project involved folding, first we started with paper and then we moved on to a material that we could fold, for our group we choose metal:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SvkA-4mlB0k/U7uICPS7abI/AAAAAAAAAn4/ZISZ_egSznM/s1600/IMG_1932.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SvkA-4mlB0k/U7uICPS7abI/AAAAAAAAAn4/ZISZ_egSznM/s1600/IMG_1932.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>

These two images are the few prototypes we made to decide on what to make for our final.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AoBcUuvbzIc/U7uH2ju9j0I/AAAAAAAAAns/2uZMVvJio5Q/s1600/photo+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AoBcUuvbzIc/U7uH2ju9j0I/AAAAAAAAAns/2uZMVvJio5Q/s1600/photo+2.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QMffFr22zRg/U7uIUBgxlcI/AAAAAAAAAoA/3Odei0YFiMo/s1600/photo+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QMffFr22zRg/U7uIUBgxlcI/AAAAAAAAAoA/3Odei0YFiMo/s1600/photo+4.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These two above are the final folds we made for our class, each are about 16" x 20"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For our next project, we had to create molds using certain objects as a cast and plaster. Our group had a bit of a struggle with making any, in the end we ended up with these:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
We all liked the pillowing effect, though it honestly was not our best project...<br />
The third project involved tying and knotting with string like material, we each had to come up with two model each, then decide on how to make the final based on each other's models:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k7yMEZt3u7E/U7uJ2rIKbvI/AAAAAAAAAoo/-KC74SY3-04/s1600/photo+5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k7yMEZt3u7E/U7uJ2rIKbvI/AAAAAAAAAoo/-KC74SY3-04/s1600/photo+5.JPG" /></a></div>

These two are the models I made for my group, though neither of them made it to the final cut...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bTWOVL7XjLE/U7uKSq8d2rI/AAAAAAAAApI/CdcqHcKnoCM/s1600/photo+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bTWOVL7XjLE/U7uKSq8d2rI/AAAAAAAAApI/CdcqHcKnoCM/s1600/photo+4.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is one of the models that was used for the final, which is suppose to be one of 4 models to tied together as one model.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xJjUxYFQf0E/U7uKNO3MFBI/AAAAAAAAAo4/FWWCn6j_2VE/s1600/photo+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xJjUxYFQf0E/U7uKNO3MFBI/AAAAAAAAAo4/FWWCn6j_2VE/s1600/photo+2.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xlbXDE_d3qE/U7uKNdE_3_I/AAAAAAAAAo8/Jem7kZNCpsY/s1600/photo+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xlbXDE_d3qE/U7uKNdE_3_I/AAAAAAAAAo8/Jem7kZNCpsY/s1600/photo+3.JPG" /></a></div>
And here are the two finals, the one above is made with really thin copper wire, while the other is a bunch of twain rope tied together with multiple knots.<br />
For our final, we had to take one of the models we made throughout the semester and make it fit into an office space, for ours we did a reception space with one of the folding models we made to make a wall/ceiling:<br />
This is the pdf file of the finish plan:<br />
<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5khS4uIpyrzUUREd1NiSzZxekE/edit?usp=sharing">https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5khS4uIpyrzUUREd1NiSzZxekE/edit?usp=sharing</a><br />
And this is the pdf file of the furniture plan:<br />

<br />
In another class, we had to learn a bit about lighting, though it was mostly observing how different types of lighting/light sources work in various situations. In one project, we had to create a lamp enclosure based on the architect/architect company we had to study. For me, I had to study a company called Snohetta, and ended up creating a simple lamp enclosure like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DW-yuII6ZdE/U7uM4skKVkI/AAAAAAAAApU/wEM6DEnHqwo/s1600/IMG_1941.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DW-yuII6ZdE/U7uM4skKVkI/AAAAAAAAApU/wEM6DEnHqwo/s1600/IMG_1941.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
The outer shell is made of watercolor paper cut out like a diamond pattern with some diagonal rectangles going across diagonally. The middle layer is made of trace paper on side and vellum paper on another. The inner most layer is chicken wire I received from a class mate, this helped a little in creating a variety of lighting and shadows projecting on the transparent papers and other surfaces.<br />
<br />
That pretty much concludes my big update, I did had a business class focused on our major, though we did not do any actual models or drawings for our projects. I did do a few sketches a while ago, though I do not think they are worthy for internet viewing... at least not yet. Hopefully I can get something in before the end of summer vacation, it's all in a matter of getting started and whatnot.hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-32820031234452373992013-12-28T00:10:00.001-08:002013-12-28T00:16:57.031-08:00Fall Semester 2013Okay, I know it's been months since I've posted, I've just been extra occupied with classes and I had to focus on a portfolio review for the Interior Design Program at my university (which I passed, thankfully). Anyway, quite a bit of stuff happened, and I do not know where to start, so I guess I will just present my final projects and whatnot.<br />
Hopefully you all can view google docs... so this link is for one of my classes where we learned how to draft and create construction documents. For this, we were given a floor plan of an office where we had to first arrange the rooms and spaces according to our program description. After going through the schematic design phase and the design development phase (where we had to work in groups of 5 or 6), we each individually had to create a partition plan, an openings schedule, a reflected ceiling plan, a finish plan, a mill work/detail elevations, and a cover sheet. I ended up doing pretty well with the whole project, though there's still room for improvement.<br />
<a href="https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5khS4uIpyrzVFlUUmVucm1qczA/edit">https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5khS4uIpyrzVFlUUmVucm1qczA/edit</a><br />
This next link is my portfolio (because it is a huge file, I needed to lower the resolution so the quality of the file is not the best). For this we mainly just had to collect various projects we have done in the program and organize them all into a book format. We also needed to customize our cover with special paper and make our own book binding. This is technically still a work in progress so there will be changes...<br />
<a href="https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5khS4uIpyrzem40YXNMbzhFb0U/edit">https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5khS4uIpyrzem40YXNMbzhFb0U/edit</a><br />
To add on to making a portfolio, we also had design the interior space in a hotel based on our concept designs and curtain walls made earlier. This project we had to work in groups of 2, so the work was kind of divided up. Because the original pdf file is humongous, I plan to just show the work I did for the hotel project. Because my partner had a bit of a struggle doing the rendering work with modo (long story of computer problems and whatnot), I was in charge of doing all the renderings for various rooms in the hotel in both modo and adobe photoshop.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QgB4dVYIM7g/Ur6AgGfMwoI/AAAAAAAAAk4/KJp3hfOCdlc/s1600/Hotel+Room+Orange+FINAL+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QgB4dVYIM7g/Ur6AgGfMwoI/AAAAAAAAAk4/KJp3hfOCdlc/s320/Hotel+Room+Orange+FINAL+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cE1vzHh43FU/Ur6AnyX8gxI/AAAAAAAAAlA/9jWHT9IW614/s1600/Hotel+Room+Purple+FINAL+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cE1vzHh43FU/Ur6AnyX8gxI/AAAAAAAAAlA/9jWHT9IW614/s320/Hotel+Room+Purple+FINAL+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
So these two are renderings of two hotel rooms (one being orange with a purple line drawing wallpaper and the other being purple with an orange line drawing wallpaper), each with a king size bed and our curtain wall shaped like a coral reef.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nG-A8WSRCQg/Ur6BcaD82OI/AAAAAAAAAlI/ykgBgInCE8k/s1600/Lobby+Front+5.25.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nG-A8WSRCQg/Ur6BcaD82OI/AAAAAAAAAlI/ykgBgInCE8k/s320/Lobby+Front+5.25.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This is the interior entrance of the hotel (what it would look like if you entered into the hotel), we wanted to do a bridge where you can cross to get to the main lobby and would feel like you are entering into a coral reef and could see the pool located below the bridge. For this, the lobby, and the basement, we struggled finding a color scheme that would work with the colors of the coral wall, so in the end we had to settle with this purple color... <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K_gfx-_oMOs/Ur6CBfsGaNI/AAAAAAAAAlQ/tO7EEQRtBhc/s1600/Lobby+Perspective+FINAL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K_gfx-_oMOs/Ur6CBfsGaNI/AAAAAAAAAlQ/tO7EEQRtBhc/s320/Lobby+Perspective+FINAL.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This is the main lobby area where there's a reception, seating along the wall, and a bar where you can get wine or coffee.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-X3HfpfqCRC0/Ur6DCCvnviI/AAAAAAAAAlY/CvnqrakmxrM/s1600/Pool+Area+FINAL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-X3HfpfqCRC0/Ur6DCCvnviI/AAAAAAAAAlY/CvnqrakmxrM/s320/Pool+Area+FINAL.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This is the basement area/pool (here you are view out in the water), it is hard to see, but we shaped the water area to be like a horse shoe to add on to the curvature of the hotel interior.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UeTjtE5RuyA/Ur6DuF5PvEI/AAAAAAAAAlk/kni2VLRZ5jo/s1600/Hotel+Facade+Front+FINAL+4.5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UeTjtE5RuyA/Ur6DuF5PvEI/AAAAAAAAAlk/kni2VLRZ5jo/s320/Hotel+Facade+Front+FINAL+4.5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--B-ZGBLyyv0/Ur6D8mCN3aI/AAAAAAAAAls/OJDW8JhAVF4/s1600/Hotel+Facade+FINAL+3.55.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--B-ZGBLyyv0/Ur6D8mCN3aI/AAAAAAAAAls/OJDW8JhAVF4/s320/Hotel+Facade+FINAL+3.55.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
These two are the facade renderings of the hotel (one elevation, and one perspective).<br />
This link is for an isometric line drawing of the whole hotel that I did (just to give you all an idea on how the whole building should look like).<br />
<a href="https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5khS4uIpyrzczgyZFg2UU5HWmc/edit">https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5khS4uIpyrzczgyZFg2UU5HWmc/edit</a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SgUCg1QPIzc/Ur6IE-38VdI/AAAAAAAAAl4/8rvYg4edILk/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SgUCg1QPIzc/Ur6IE-38VdI/AAAAAAAAAl4/8rvYg4edILk/s1600/photo.JPG" /></a></div>
This is a quick photo of what is suppose to be part of the curtain wall in life size. They were crochet and sewed together.<br />
There was a lot more previous work done before all of this... though I feel like it may be a bit too much to show on a blog. I also did some work on the plans and sections for the hotel, my partner just did the touch ups and final editing for our final presentation. Personally, I felt like I did a better job on my portfolio than the hotel project (maybe because it was individual).<br />
That's pretty much it for now, overall a busy semester with a lot of work/projects (but I ended up with really good grades in the end). I'm hoping to be able to draw/sketch a bit more though that will depend on how busy I get next semester with classes and possibly an internship if I can find one.hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-5013133743155608812013-08-19T16:19:00.001-07:002013-08-19T16:19:36.531-07:00Closing the summer of 2013<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Okay, so before I go back to studying and working my butt off in college work, I wanted to do a post of stuff I managed to sketch out for the remaining of my summer vacation.<br />
<br />
This one is a drawing of one of the hanging lights one can find in Japantown San Francisco, did this while waiting for a friend:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

These are sketches I did while waiting for a friend's birthday party:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9MgeHZ9mO1Q/UhKjA6gn3iI/AAAAAAAAAkI/7PpXpEtWxWQ/s1600/Scissors+and+box.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9MgeHZ9mO1Q/UhKjA6gn3iI/AAAAAAAAAkI/7PpXpEtWxWQ/s1600/Scissors+and+box.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xSp7NGwEor0/UhKkJKqhIVI/AAAAAAAAAkQ/JZMrpLRLm9Y/s1600/Girl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xSp7NGwEor0/UhKkJKqhIVI/AAAAAAAAAkQ/JZMrpLRLm9Y/s320/Girl.jpg" width="140" /></a></div>
One of the girls I was waiting with asked me to draw out a person, I ended up picking a picture of a girl on one of the photo machines we saw. Record shows figure drawing is not my thing...<br />
These I drew just yesterday in Caffe Frascati with some A/I friends:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
That's pretty much it in matters of art for now, I managed to work on my portfolio a bit; such as reorganizing the format, replacing the photos, and adding in a little more hand drawings/concept, though I do not feel like sharing it yet. I am going to take a special portfolio class for my major so hopefully I will learn something in making a professional portfolio.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I am also having a handful of classes this semester that could determine what will happen to me for the rest of my college career, so I may not have much time to do sketches for fun and whatnot. Though I hardly think it matters to many of you (lots of you readers managed to live without me posting for months). I do plan to inform you all how things go this semester, most likely at the very end when I know the results/grades. And to all my art friends: best of luck to you all for your classes and any other obstacle you plan to conquer this semester.hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-423539606721351502013-07-11T14:21:00.001-07:002013-07-11T14:21:11.810-07:00July 4th Vacation WeekendOkay, I know this is a little late, I had to wait on my brother for some photos he took over the weekend, plus I got a stomach ache yesterday and was unable to do anything other than sleep it off. So I'm going to try to document my family vacation in Grand Lake, Colorado as best as I can for those of you who do not know (though technically the only people who will know are my relatives from my dad's side of the family.<br />
<br />
July 4th: First thing in the morning, we (me, my mom, and my dad) find out there's something wrong with the water heater, but because we had to leave for a flight at around 11:30am we had to arrange an appointment to get it fixed on Tuesday morning (since we were coming back Monday evening). Getting through security, I forgot to take out my laptop out from my backpack, and was scolded by security for the mistake (though it was my first time bringing my laptop to an airport). Flight was on time, and we made it to Denver, Colorado in 2 hours, but the last bit where we had to land and fight against turbulence almost made me vomit. I was really hungry after the flight, but too sick from the motion sickness to be able to eat. My mom was sick as well from the flight, though my dad was fine<br />
At the airport, we met up with my brother (who was also fine) and began our 3 hour car ride up to the Grand Lake Lodge. I was unsure whether it was motion sickness from the winding roads, increase in altitude, or a combination of everything that could make me sick, but I was not feeling well on the car trip as we climbed the mountains. We did stop on the way over to pick up food for breakfast at Safeway, and stopped for dinner at a place called Mavericks. There we got a little taste of Colorado food service (slow service, big portions).<br />
We finally made it to the Grand Lake Lodge, which is a series of cabins up on a hill, where at the bottom is the Grand Lake Village along with the Grand Lake. Since it was my cousin Erin's 13th birthday, we celebrated that with a few games (though we were mostly siting around talking, drinking, and eventually eating red velvet cake), we also got to see the fireworks that night from the lake. After that, we all returned to our cabins and went to bed (at least some of us did).<br />
<br />
July 5th: I was feeling better from the sickness the other day, though my mom got really sick so she had to rest that morning. Since a majority of the family was going swimming, me and my brother joined in for the fun. We played marco pollo for a bit, I made it through the whole game without getting caught. Afterwards, a few of us (me, my brother, my two cousins, my uncle, and one of my cousin's girlfriend) took a trail down to the Grand Lake Village just to get a look around the place. We saw plenty of ice cream shops, I noticed a quilt shop (which I thought about telling my mom since she is into quilting), we even went down to the lake to see a couple of interesting boats (one was a van on top of the bottom part of a boat, though I did not get a picture of it... sorry).<br />
By the time we came back up to the cabins (which many of us dreaded doing), it was time for lunch, so my family went to the main lodge to have lunch (where service was a bit slow, and did not have good onion soup). After that, we thought about staying in the cabin since one of my cousins mentioned something about rain in the afternoon. Though I was concerned about my mom and suggested we find some medicine for her headaches. So we drove down to the village (just me, my dad, and my mom; my brother stayed behind and hung out with the others) and got some advil. I showed them both the village while down there, my mom stayed at the quilt shop where she found some nice patterns for her new quilt project, while I walked around with my dad to explore the area a bit more (my dad thought the place reminded him of Dr Seuss: where everybody looked the same and white). There we got rained on and had to run back to the car trying to avoid getting wet as much as possible.<br />
For dinner, the four of us just drove down past the Grand Lake to find a place to eat. We stopped at a place called Bar & Grill, the food was good, but service was also slow in getting the food and giving us the check.<br />
When we came back, my dad, my brother and I went to the main cabin to meet up with everybody. There I tried to do some actual sketching. Here's a failed attempt of my drawing my three aunts and cousin playing wisp, by the time I starting drawing, they were finished with their game so I had to try to draw from memory:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FfEDRVs0hqU/Ud8LahJ1API/AAAAAAAAAfk/90AcOa9LjAY/s1600/Figure+Drawings+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FfEDRVs0hqU/Ud8LahJ1API/AAAAAAAAAfk/90AcOa9LjAY/s320/Figure+Drawings+2.jpg" width="284" /></a></div>
Finally giving up, I decided to drawing random items I found around me. First I did a book sitting on some pile of fire wood:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ESVDiOp4Zs8/Ud8LxVACy9I/AAAAAAAAAfs/5i4spCHE4DA/s1600/Logs+and+Open+Book.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ESVDiOp4Zs8/Ud8LxVACy9I/AAAAAAAAAfs/5i4spCHE4DA/s320/Logs+and+Open+Book.jpg" width="236" /></a></div>
Next I noticed a beer bottom on a window sill, and drew that out like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7te3lpqzYZM/Ud8MLcpHsFI/AAAAAAAAAf0/QuHbKoOuw5o/s1600/Beer+Bottle+by+Screen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7te3lpqzYZM/Ud8MLcpHsFI/AAAAAAAAAf0/QuHbKoOuw5o/s320/Beer+Bottle+by+Screen.jpg" width="216" /></a></div>
After the beer bottle, below was the remaining pieces of the birthday cake on the floor, so I attempted to draw that out as well before joining the family in their crazy card games (I say this because there was a ton of screaming and threatening from the people playing them):<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-beQ4e0BD6q4/Ud8MwYMQb2I/AAAAAAAAAf8/kL-53cFJJ5g/s1600/Birthday+Cake.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-beQ4e0BD6q4/Ud8MwYMQb2I/AAAAAAAAAf8/kL-53cFJJ5g/s320/Birthday+Cake.jpg" width="219" /></a></div>
Though I did not actually play any of the games, I did get to chat a bit with one my cousins on our current situations, along with some of my relatives.<br />
Much later that night, we were told about a satellite becoming visible in the night sky, so we journeyed out in the dark to try and find it. At first we thought we would not be able to see it because of some clouds and multiple sirens from the police cars in the distance, but it ended up shining bright enough for us to tell it was not just some airplane (I sadly did not get any pictures, though it would have probably would have done no good, you'd just have to try to find one yourselves and see in real life).<br />
<br />
July 6th: This was a day one of my uncles planned a long hiking trip in the mountains. The deal was it was an hour long drive to get to the hiking path, and three hours total to reach the top of the mountain. Fearing of getting altitude sickness from the hike and motion sickness from the drive I stayed behind with my parents and two aunts (one of my cousins and her boyfriend stayed behind because of injuries, but I didn't get to spend much time with them). That morning I also made arrangements to do horseback riding in the afternoon (at was literally my first time riding a horse, but I have wanted to do horseback riding for a long time).<br />
Before the big event of my day, I went walking around a bit with my two aunts, we got to see some arrangements for a wedding reception that day. Then my mom and dad met up with us and we all went down to the village for a little shopping and for lunch. We ate at a place called Miyauchi's Homemade Ice Cream and Snack Bar, the service was good as well as the food. After that, we stopped by Dairy King for some ice cream (yeah that's right, there's a real "Dairy King" out there that's not a Dairy Queen).<br />
Finally it was time for horseback riding, and a part of me was happy it was not raining that part of the afternoon I was planning to ride for an hour and a half. Now these picture was actually taken after my horseback riding trip by my dad, but I felt like bring some live evidence of my adventure:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qX1c_vOGjUs/Ud8RnwVGR5I/AAAAAAAAAgs/CA7krRdDN2U/s1600/P1010651.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qX1c_vOGjUs/Ud8RnwVGR5I/AAAAAAAAAgs/CA7krRdDN2U/s320/P1010651.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
From left to right: Our guide for the trail riding was Tabitha, who knows her way around horses and is currently majoring in Animal studies; me on my horse Chip; Tabitha's father; and Tabitha's mother. So a fun small group, they were all nice people to go horseback riding with (Tabitha mentioned having a sister named Hannah, though she was not there on the trip).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-35EaZ_JRxcg/Ud8RCI9HHXI/AAAAAAAAAgM/wvWHJt6C50c/s1600/P1010652.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-35EaZ_JRxcg/Ud8RCI9HHXI/AAAAAAAAAgM/wvWHJt6C50c/s320/P1010652.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
This just a close up picture of me with Chip<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LWyibgc4qw0/Ud8SpPft51I/AAAAAAAAAg8/CRMNVdBeAS8/s1600/P1010660.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LWyibgc4qw0/Ud8SpPft51I/AAAAAAAAAg8/CRMNVdBeAS8/s320/P1010660.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
And here's a better picture of Chip being taken away by Tabitha. To summarize, it was an awesome experience that I hope I will never forget (it does a number on your butt if you are not used to it, but it is still worth it).<br />
After my fun worthwhile riding trip, I found out the big group going hiking just made it to the top at 2pm (when my horseback riding trip started). The funny thing was the hiking trip took five hours to get through the whole thing, so instead of coming back around 1pm like planned, they managed to get back at around 5:30pm. Though they all seemed to have fun, so it must have been worth it.<br />
When my brother finally got back from the long hiking trip, we left to Mustachio's for dinner, though it was the worst food service we ever had on this whole trip. Plus I was not really hungry for my vegetarian lasagna, just to pass the time I attempted to sketch out the pile of cheese:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Fh5FEtzmChM/Ud8UnF5lE2I/AAAAAAAAAhM/pdpaUnPPRDo/s1600/Lasania+Dinner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="190" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Fh5FEtzmChM/Ud8UnF5lE2I/AAAAAAAAAhM/pdpaUnPPRDo/s320/Lasania+Dinner.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I probably would have drawn it out a bit more, but my brother asked if he could try some, so without thinking, I grabbed the whole plate and placed it on top of his empty plate. He did give it back and just scooped a bite, but it was hard to tell how to draw it out in the current state it was in. Beforehand, my brother mentioned stuff about a mountain silhouette of Abraham Lincoln laying down. I was able to notice it firsthand, but it took a while for the others to see it and take a picture:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3RgVaqJWy2o/Ud8Vw4kUo_I/AAAAAAAAAh4/tZTfVTIstkQ/s1600/Photo+Jul+06,+6+03+07+PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3RgVaqJWy2o/Ud8Vw4kUo_I/AAAAAAAAAh4/tZTfVTIstkQ/s320/Photo+Jul+06,+6+03+07+PM.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Sorry that it's a little hard to see, it was taken with an Ipod Touch camera my brother had, but if you look closely you can see Abe Lincoln laying down with his head and body in profile.<br />
The rest of the night I spent at the cabin with my mom watching TV. Almost forgot the mention that earlier on before my brother came back, we saw the news about the 214 plan crashing in SFO, which was big news for us since a crash like that could easily cause delays on our trip home.<br />
<br />
July 7th: Technically our last full day staying at the Grand Lake Lodge. In the morning, I went swimming with my two cousins, two aunts, and one of my cousin's girlfriend. My brother joined in later on, but accidentally got his cell phone in the hot tub, because of that I had to spend a bit of my time trying to dry out his phone and find a tiny screw driver to open up his phone (but since I could not find a small enough screw driver, there was no luck).<br />
After swimming a little longer, I stopped by the main lodge to talk a little to a painter named Thomas Halt, mostly just to compliment on his painting. To all my art friends, look this guy up, he has awesome paintings.<br />
Later that morning, a majority of us went to a place called Adams Falls, where we got to see a water fall and do a couple of random photo shots around the area.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z5vWO63jsF0/Ud8X4v65p3I/AAAAAAAAAiI/Tny_87tsjwk/s1600/P1010675.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z5vWO63jsF0/Ud8X4v65p3I/AAAAAAAAAiI/Tny_87tsjwk/s320/P1010675.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Here's a picture of part of the falls taken by my dad.<br />
After the hike, we went to the go kart track where six of raced in go karts. Sadly I came in dead last after sliding on water thrown on the track purposely by staff, bumping into one or two karts close to me, and crashing into the side of the track unable to turn around or back up because the karts had no reverse gear.<br />
Having only my pride in racing hurt, we headed out for lunch, my family just stopped by Dairy King for sandwiches, while everyone else, from what I've heard, went to have ice cream for lunch. We had ice cream as well, just at Dairy King since my brother did not get a chance to try it the other day. While eating, we saw a little chipmunk coming in and out nibbling on any food crumbs it could eat. Here's a picture my brother took of it eating part of my ice cream cone I tour off for it to eat:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0fQpxCZNX5Q/Ud8Z1ObYDjI/AAAAAAAAAio/yMzwfo8KFpw/s1600/Photo+Jul+07,+12+49+12+PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0fQpxCZNX5Q/Ud8Z1ObYDjI/AAAAAAAAAio/yMzwfo8KFpw/s320/Photo+Jul+07,+12+49+12+PM.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
One almost ate a part of my ice cream, which I offered, but it ran off before my brother or my dad could get a picture.<br />
Sadly afterwards, I began developing a headache on the right side of my head (I assumed it was a migraine headache). I spent the rest of the day trying to rest my head, in the middle I was called out to get a picture taken with all of my cousins. Before the picture, I had to wait, with my head throbbing, while listening to my cousins play a card game called quarters, which did not help me out since everybody was shouting and screaming. After the long photo shot, I dragged myself back to bed with a worser headache, I even felt like crying from the pain.<br />
Because of the headache, I had no appetite to go to dinner with my dad and brother at the main lodge, my mom stayed behind with me to have slices of warm bread with cream cheese for dinner. My mom finally convinced me into taking advil to ease the pain, which led me to going outside for a little fresh air (though you can't expect much air from over 8,000 feet in altitude). While out, I ran into my dad and brother (who told me that dinner service was a lot faster and better due to less people being there), so we went for a little walk together and I showed them the art gallery done by Thomas Halt. While there, Thomas Halt came by and we managed to talk a bit more then. I learned that he spent his life painting for over 40 years and started as a drafts man in architecture in the 1960s. Today he mainly paints for entertain around the lodge, but anyone can buy his works for a good price. He told us that his paintings with windmills are the ones that get sold often. If any of you get the chance, you should try to look him up, I really recommend his work.<br />
The rest of the night I stayed at the cabin again, still tired with a little headache, ready to go home as soon as possible.<br />
<br />
July 8th: At around 8:30am, we said our good byes to the remaining people at the cabins (some already left last night or earlier in the morning). The trip down was easy since there was hardly any traffic, we even stopped by a mall on the way over to the airport (similar to the Great Mall in San Jose for those of you who have gone). We got our tickets and through security fine (though I step to side because they thought I had some piece of metal in my hair, which was really nothing). We had lunch at Wolfgang Pucks and ice cream at Ben and Jerry's. My brother's flight back to LA was on time, though our flight to SF was an hour and half delayed because of air traffic control (we were just happy it was not canceled or delayed even further). Thankfully I managed to get through the whole trip without getting sick at all, and we made it home without any further problems.<br />
Funny thing, both me and my mom felt okay coming back home, but my dad got a headache from the trip, and my brother called telling us he got sick as well. For those of you who were following along, it's like the tables have turned.<br />
<br />
Anyway, that concludes my story on my family vacation, so unless there's a plan to go to Orange County to see the Counting Crows Concert, I'm going to be in SF for probably the rest of the summer. I do still hope to get more drawings/updates in, so, yeah, expect something from me sometime...hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-62183372975626582802013-07-03T16:35:00.000-07:002013-07-03T16:35:55.856-07:00Happy 4th of JulyHey again, it's going to be fourth of July weekend, hope you all have plans or plan to give yourself something fun to do over the four day weekend. I plan to go to a family reunion in Denver, Colorado up in the mountains, so we'll see whether it will be a worthwhile weekend with relatives and cousins, though something usually goes wrong on big events like this (or at least they do when I think nothing can go wrong), so all I can do is hope for the best.<br />
Anyway, before that, I wanted to show some stuff I've been doing about a week ago. They are also concept designs for a summer film, but I do not plan on revealing anything about them just yet, so just use your imagination:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5M_cAEJ6ZcI/UdSzGK2Jv4I/AAAAAAAAAe8/l2aSMgrOF0U/s1087/Detective+Outfit+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5M_cAEJ6ZcI/UdSzGK2Jv4I/AAAAAAAAAe8/l2aSMgrOF0U/s320/Detective+Outfit+1.jpg" width="171" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iU24QLQmABY/UdSzILCkj1I/AAAAAAAAAfY/6xU1AJFTkO0/s1600/Detective+Outfit+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iU24QLQmABY/UdSzILCkj1I/AAAAAAAAAfY/6xU1AJFTkO0/s320/Detective+Outfit+2.jpg" width="134" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These are clothes designs I came up with at first using a person to model the the clothes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L-FZwOsem2s/UdSzHrujg9I/AAAAAAAAAfU/xfVQFW-B77I/s1600/Detective+Outfit+1.2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L-FZwOsem2s/UdSzHrujg9I/AAAAAAAAAfU/xfVQFW-B77I/s320/Detective+Outfit+1.2.jpg" width="227" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ib5J0U0Ayws/UdSzHzUzPhI/AAAAAAAAAfM/-GmXGaK6z5c/s1232/Detective+Outfit+2.2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="264" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ib5J0U0Ayws/UdSzHzUzPhI/AAAAAAAAAfM/-GmXGaK6z5c/s320/Detective+Outfit+2.2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Afterwards, I was asked to do the designs separate from the models, so I just did flat front and back views of the designs I thought up of. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That's sadly pretty much it for now, I did do a quick drawing of a column today at the mall while waiting for my mom to try on some tops, though I'm personally not too happy with the rushed/messy turnout. Hopefully, if I get a chance, I can get a chance to do some sketches during the family reunion. So to all reading this, Happy 4th of July (and Happy Birthday cousin Erin).</div>

<br />
These were drawings done a few weeks ago, I've just been too lazy to post them up (plus they are pretty rough and sloppy).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-__5s7VuOlbc/Ucny_dg0bZI/AAAAAAAAAdk/GeDxyXWJQSE/s1600/Girl+doing+hair+for+friend.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-__5s7VuOlbc/Ucny_dg0bZI/AAAAAAAAAdk/GeDxyXWJQSE/s320/Girl+doing+hair+for+friend.jpg" width="211" /></a></div>
Here is my friend getting her hair styled by an employer and friend of a store in SF Japantown. Because it took a while, I had to pass time drawing random stuff hoping no one would force me to put away my sketchbook.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ogn5wv3L3ms/UcnznPX7XQI/AAAAAAAAAds/lJtjXDaDGLU/s1600/Overhead+Decoration.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ogn5wv3L3ms/UcnznPX7XQI/AAAAAAAAAds/lJtjXDaDGLU/s320/Overhead+Decoration.jpg" width="226" /></a></div>
These were decorations in the shop I tried to draw, though I wished I did a little better.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RlR2k3MU5xU/Ucn0CoN-eaI/AAAAAAAAAd0/ORtb58MAd-4/s1600/Left+Hand+Drawing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RlR2k3MU5xU/Ucn0CoN-eaI/AAAAAAAAAd0/ORtb58MAd-4/s320/Left+Hand+Drawing.jpg" width="247" /></a></div>
Bored and frustrated out of my mind because of my crude sketching, I traced over my left hand and attempted to draw out the details. By then, my friend was done with her styling, and we spent the rest of the day walking around and talking.<br />
<br />
This is something I did at a mall, when I decided to actually stop and "smell the roses," or in this case ice cream.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--GyddPIpe-s/Ucn0svg1sgI/AAAAAAAAAd8/piJPkQt92t0/s1600/Mall+Drawing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--GyddPIpe-s/Ucn0svg1sgI/AAAAAAAAAd8/piJPkQt92t0/s320/Mall+Drawing.jpg" width="202" /></a></div>
I tried drawing out the ice cream cup I had before eating it all and before it was slowly melting away. In front of me was a random guy on his iphone, which I attempt to drawing on the bottom right corner. there was also a guy at a Verizon Wireless stand who often stood up straight with his arms crossed, so I attempted to draw him out as well.<br />
<br />
Other than buying my time, golfing with my dad, and other random stuff, I've been working as a concept artist for a summer film. I do not want to give away too many details, so just use your imaginations.<br />

That's pretty much it for now, I am still hoping to get a few other things done, so if another post comes up, you'll know I was actually working on something<br />

Plus I've been having a hard time figuring out how to put pdf files online. Anyway (I hope these are view able) here are the two major projects I had for my building codes class:<br />
<br />
<a href="https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5khS4uIpyrzWW1xSzRjTllwQm8/edit?usp=sharing">https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5khS4uIpyrzWW1xSzRjTllwQm8/edit?usp=sharing</a><br />

<br />
Here's also my current portfolio, which I hope to work on this summer and get better by the end of Fall semester. Sadly, it's not view able online, if anyone wants to view it, you'll have to download it. Sorry.<br />
<br />

<br />
Other than those, I managed to do some animal drawings with at the Oakland zoo with my A/I friends (you all know who you are). Here are some I did while waiting at the Oakland zoo entrance:<br />

Well, that's pretty much it for now, I do hope to keep this blog alive somehow this summer. I will try to continue doing drawings on my own as well as improve the layout of my portfolio.hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-80932985985363352632012-12-13T17:21:00.000-08:002012-12-13T17:21:14.395-08:00Most of my design assignments so far...Okay, I know it's been a really long time since I posted anything, I have just been pretty busy with all school work and whatnot...<br />
Here are the three designs I did for an acrylic assignment I had to do weeks ago (where we had to etch, score, and cut on the acrylic with a natural design we find online):<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8HalrS7kfGg/UMp2pGGHs5I/AAAAAAAAAZs/3prJsTlJRFQ/s1600/IMG_1643.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8HalrS7kfGg/UMp2pGGHs5I/AAAAAAAAAZs/3prJsTlJRFQ/s320/IMG_1643.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kO51Bbk5cKE/UMp2p-H-70I/AAAAAAAAAZ0/l2zB6L8j3iI/s1600/IMG_1644.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kO51Bbk5cKE/UMp2p-H-70I/AAAAAAAAAZ0/l2zB6L8j3iI/s320/IMG_1644.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ljPLzmd1tQ8/UMp2qoLm4VI/AAAAAAAAAZ8/iFjGp7t2iNo/s1600/IMG_1645.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ljPLzmd1tQ8/UMp2qoLm4VI/AAAAAAAAAZ8/iFjGp7t2iNo/s320/IMG_1645.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
They're a little hard to see, since I tried capturing a photo of them in the sunlight...<br />
Our next assignment involved taking two of either the previous projects (wood stacking, paper folding, and acrylic etching) and combine into one hybrid model, we had to two of those. What I did was a combination of stacking and etching, and folding and etching:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hmyjhDtz1hQ/UMp3U8bC6BI/AAAAAAAAAaE/CLNNIiOmFpQ/s1600/IMG_1654.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hmyjhDtz1hQ/UMp3U8bC6BI/AAAAAAAAAaE/CLNNIiOmFpQ/s320/IMG_1654.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fdiKOzKrm5o/UMp3YPhF1DI/AAAAAAAAAaM/zvH4PEf0AQI/s1600/IMG_1651.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fdiKOzKrm5o/UMp3YPhF1DI/AAAAAAAAAaM/zvH4PEf0AQI/s320/IMG_1651.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
For our final project, we had to take one of our previous projects, and make that the official wall for redesigning the inside of a salvation army building (the building is located somewhere on First and Market street, close to the San Jose Quilts and Textiles museum). Here's the final model I made of the building, using my hybrid model with the stacking and etching:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-96tFByM5Aow/UMp7v3NDc0I/AAAAAAAAAag/E8FNIwdH-RU/s1600/IMG_1634.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-96tFByM5Aow/UMp7v3NDc0I/AAAAAAAAAag/E8FNIwdH-RU/s320/IMG_1634.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OCv-YCG2Ns8/UMp7woMpSBI/AAAAAAAAAao/ALGo773XSoM/s1600/IMG_1635.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OCv-YCG2Ns8/UMp7woMpSBI/AAAAAAAAAao/ALGo773XSoM/s320/IMG_1635.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UAQ012ozRyw/UMp7xAWbLCI/AAAAAAAAAaw/8wBK-uXzZkQ/s1600/IMG_1636.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UAQ012ozRyw/UMp7xAWbLCI/AAAAAAAAAaw/8wBK-uXzZkQ/s320/IMG_1636.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I wanted to make the walls out of bass wood, but I had no time to use the laser cutting machine to make the small cutting details I needed, so I had to use Bristol paper (all cut by hand). I also had to make renderings, floor plans and sections, but those are all on an Illustrator file, I will get back to you when I manage to make them an image file or something like that.<br />
For my other class, we were told to do axon plans of our building (axon plans are objects put in a 3/4ths perspective with no vanishing point). These are really rough and messy, but I feeling like sharing them:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GJo1yquMP8c/UMp9ale-k_I/AAAAAAAAAa4/kKgrWkxfji4/s1600/Axon+First+Plan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GJo1yquMP8c/UMp9ale-k_I/AAAAAAAAAa4/kKgrWkxfji4/s320/Axon+First+Plan.jpg" width="245" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RuC8COrE3wg/UMp9bKCHp3I/AAAAAAAAAbA/Nqq2PWrw6Cs/s1600/Axon+Roof+Plan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RuC8COrE3wg/UMp9bKCHp3I/AAAAAAAAAbA/Nqq2PWrw6Cs/s320/Axon+Roof+Plan.jpg" width="244" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DddILUz7Zqw/UMp9b-4FbSI/AAAAAAAAAbI/xO7gQ0nh33M/s1600/Axon+Second+Plan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DddILUz7Zqw/UMp9b-4FbSI/AAAAAAAAAbI/xO7gQ0nh33M/s320/Axon+Second+Plan.jpg" width="246" /></a></div>
And a few assignments before our final for this class, we had to take a perspective of a room and render it with a red pencil and chartpak makers:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h5oCX6GPOBk/UMp9y2KSGeI/AAAAAAAAAbQ/D48FksMk9e8/s1600/Room+Rendering.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h5oCX6GPOBk/UMp9y2KSGeI/AAAAAAAAAbQ/D48FksMk9e8/s320/Room+Rendering.jpg" width="245" /></a></div>
This one here, is a section plan that we had to trace and bring into photoshop to render on the computer:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EvUAIl8fT4A/UMp9_EN4E0I/AAAAAAAAAbY/ipLaQM6eV2A/s1600/Section+Drawing+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="246" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EvUAIl8fT4A/UMp9_EN4E0I/AAAAAAAAAbY/ipLaQM6eV2A/s320/Section+Drawing+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
There's still quite a bit of stuff I did for these classes and another design class, though some of the files still PDF files or are just not considered my personal best.<br />
Hope you all like it... quite a bit of blood and tears went into a lot of my assignments, even though they are not the most artistic or professional looking...hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-61848531691038478292012-09-30T15:11:00.000-07:002012-09-30T15:11:01.897-07:00Slightly Big UpdateEven today, I wonder if I made the right choice in changing majors. I would tell people my current major and sometimes have to tell what my previous major was. Sometimes I wonder if people think I'm crazy for doing so. So far I'm kind of enjoying the modeling making: cutting wood, folding paper, laser cutting plastic, etc. Plus I'm learning a bit about drafting in programs like autocad and revit. I keep telling people that it's not easy, it's a little like animation/illustration, just a new level of difficulty (new expectations and demands).<br />
Anyway, I figured I'd try to show you guys the things I have done so far. In one of my classes, we had to create new folding techniques using bristol paper, here are the final nine designs that I came up with:<br />

Most of them look the same, that's just because I took off the same design idea and made a couple of changes to make it slightly different from the original. In my rendering class, a few weeks ago, we had to take a picture of four chairs and a table and practice rendering them with various medias. The first one is rendered on paper with a black colored pencil:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1o9EXyRhcVo/UGjAOiD2kNI/AAAAAAAAAYc/76QrewcWvrU/s1600/Chair+Renders+Colored+Pencil.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="251" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1o9EXyRhcVo/UGjAOiD2kNI/AAAAAAAAAYc/76QrewcWvrU/s320/Chair+Renders+Colored+Pencil.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This one was rendered on trace paper using chartpak markers and a black colored pencil (word to the wise, chartpak are strong markers, they can easily make one high from the stench).<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UMU0e3XE0n8/UGjBNPVE0dI/AAAAAAAAAYk/bDD32kqYFv8/s1600/Chair+Renders+Marker+Trace.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UMU0e3XE0n8/UGjBNPVE0dI/AAAAAAAAAYk/bDD32kqYFv8/s320/Chair+Renders+Marker+Trace.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span id="goog_1707009612"></span><span id="goog_1707009613"></span><br /></div>
This one was rendering on bond paper using chartpak markers:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-60WhdjSMAqk/UGjBVxEGIuI/AAAAAAAAAYs/IFDX8sdHAhc/s1600/Chair+Renders+Marker+Bond.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="237" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-60WhdjSMAqk/UGjBVxEGIuI/AAAAAAAAAYs/IFDX8sdHAhc/s320/Chair+Renders+Marker+Bond.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here's a more recent assignment I did for my rendering class, we were told to take two objects and make a plan, a front elevation, a side elevation, and an axon plan for each while showing how they each function. So it was more like an industrial design project. For this, I did a miniature stapler and a can opener:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZxDY7nWE4Gg/UGjB0hHRNgI/AAAAAAAAAY0/-1s2v1CSUUM/s1600/Stappler+diagrams.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="252" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZxDY7nWE4Gg/UGjB0hHRNgI/AAAAAAAAAY0/-1s2v1CSUUM/s320/Stappler+diagrams.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NLyd3WAYJ98/UGjB4oeggPI/AAAAAAAAAY8/VUwX0we9wM4/s1600/Can+Openner+diagrams.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NLyd3WAYJ98/UGjB4oeggPI/AAAAAAAAAY8/VUwX0we9wM4/s320/Can+Openner+diagrams.jpg" width="231" /></a></div>
Besides from the multiple projects and assignments given from school, I've been able to find a little time to render. About twice in two weeks, I went to flames with my classmates for drinks, there I did a few sketches of what was in the restaurant:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zRBYFlhmAfg/UGjCYYCze6I/AAAAAAAAAZE/Y26DOLUuXzQ/s1600/Flames+Images+01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zRBYFlhmAfg/UGjCYYCze6I/AAAAAAAAAZE/Y26DOLUuXzQ/s320/Flames+Images+01.jpg" width="186" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qEzAivvZP5w/UGjCYyCGWvI/AAAAAAAAAZM/KuecHa0m8lQ/s1600/Flames+Images+02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qEzAivvZP5w/UGjCYyCGWvI/AAAAAAAAAZM/KuecHa0m8lQ/s320/Flames+Images+02.jpg" width="253" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

That's pretty much it for now, I've done a couple of other renderings and sketches, but I don't feel like showing them. Next time, I'll try to show you my laser cuts.hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-88996694740292643142012-09-16T12:42:00.002-07:002012-09-16T12:43:08.297-07:00Stacking ProjectI know it's been a while since I posted anything, I've been a big occupied with my classes and whatnot. Right now, I'm learning to how to use Autocad to make floor plans, how to render shapes and furniture, and making various designs out of wood and Bristol paper. For now, I'll just show you guys my stacking project. We were told to first make a plan, a elevation, and an axon view for one of our walls which we make by stacking pieces of wood. So here's one rough done in pencil, and one done in pen:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c7eTEZKNjQ8/UFYqIbwURfI/AAAAAAAAAV8/ia58w8AaBLM/s1600/Wall+Plan+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="284" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c7eTEZKNjQ8/UFYqIbwURfI/AAAAAAAAAV8/ia58w8AaBLM/s320/Wall+Plan+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tH-HCLBhOSs/UFYqI-neUKI/AAAAAAAAAWE/XNBedu-gOSw/s1600/Wall+Plan+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="264" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tH-HCLBhOSs/UFYqI-neUKI/AAAAAAAAAWE/XNBedu-gOSw/s320/Wall+Plan+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
For the actual wall, we had to make three different designs that had to be about 7"x14":<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HhOpG5WlRsU/UFYqnawBRCI/AAAAAAAAAWM/rnPw_ke6CQo/s1600/image_04.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HhOpG5WlRsU/UFYqnawBRCI/AAAAAAAAAWM/rnPw_ke6CQo/s320/image_04.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>

Personally I had a little fun with the construction process, it's a little like stacking blocks when you're a little kid. Anyway, the professor thought the last model at the bottom was the best out of all three. Next time, I'll show you guys some of the furniture renderings I've done with a black colored pencil and gray chartpak markers, and maybe some of the fold models I've done.hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-508071723897076072012-08-16T13:00:00.000-07:002012-08-16T17:36:54.669-07:00Drawings from LA vacationHaven't been too productive in drawing this summer, but I managed to get in a couple of sketches during my trip to LA with my family. So, I'll try to walk you guys through it.<br />
The first day, we drove down to Ventura to rest for the night. We stopped by a restaurant for dinner in Downtown Ventura, here are somethings I drew there:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-863hgyHr-4U/UC1MZI1HnYI/AAAAAAAAAUw/E8TaBVzESio/s1600/Beer+Bottle+Glass+and+Fork.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-863hgyHr-4U/UC1MZI1HnYI/AAAAAAAAAUw/E8TaBVzESio/s320/Beer+Bottle+Glass+and+Fork.jpg" width="244" /></a></div>
I couldn't finish fork before the food arrived sadly...<br />
The very next morning we drove down to the Grove in Hollywood for lunch, and to watch the women's soccer game (Japan vs USA). Here's a drawing of a regular guy watching the game:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bC1F8OnItYE/UC1M8VWHwmI/AAAAAAAAAU4/vJdChHBtD3A/s1600/Man+Sitting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bC1F8OnItYE/UC1M8VWHwmI/AAAAAAAAAU4/vJdChHBtD3A/s320/Man+Sitting.jpg" width="215" /></a></div>
I know it's not the best figure drawing... It's just been a while since I've tried drawing people.<br />
Later that night, we went Dave and Busters to celebrate my older brother's birthday. I notice the fans on the ceilings were being run by giant rubber bands attached to other fans:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TKCGr25SIO0/UC1Nm_NH1GI/AAAAAAAAAVA/sL1n6P-dTeg/s1600/Fan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TKCGr25SIO0/UC1Nm_NH1GI/AAAAAAAAAVA/sL1n6P-dTeg/s320/Fan.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I tried detailing the bands as much as I could, just looked a bit unique.<br />
The next two days I didn't really try to draw... Ended up going to a Martina McBride concert in the Orange County Fair on Friday (which was actually really fun). We did go to see the Alaskan pig race before hand, which was really cute (the host promised "bacon" after the race), so sad...<br />
Saturday we went to Huntington Beach for swimming (although I was the only one actually swimming).<br />
Sunday, our last day in LA, my older brother invited us to his church community. Before going, we walked through a mall close by, ended up drawing the directory sign:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wkK8_1Xwi_0/UC1Oq57v7GI/AAAAAAAAAVI/gEdw5pGJOKo/s1600/Directory+Sign.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wkK8_1Xwi_0/UC1Oq57v7GI/AAAAAAAAAVI/gEdw5pGJOKo/s320/Directory+Sign.jpg" width="228" /></a></div>
At the church, I ended drawing a bit more than I should have... I drew one of the speakers used for the music band:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iF2dkIHXYLk/UC1Pa2Vv--I/AAAAAAAAAVQ/PIQlQseDuOg/s1600/Speaker.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iF2dkIHXYLk/UC1Pa2Vv--I/AAAAAAAAAVQ/PIQlQseDuOg/s320/Speaker.jpg" width="208" /></a></div>
Here's a drawing of my older brother (sorry big bro) talking about his personal experience doing a mission in Guatemala:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sb2sOiAMiu0/UC1Podv31KI/AAAAAAAAAVY/OEmZkKCPaYk/s1600/Ken.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sb2sOiAMiu0/UC1Podv31KI/AAAAAAAAAVY/OEmZkKCPaYk/s320/Ken.jpg" width="292" /></a></div>
And a drawing of his girlfriend's back, who was sitting right in front of us:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-q6xeCLWijYk/UC1P2a4Gh9I/AAAAAAAAAVg/vqMHVC0OVfk/s1600/Emily.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-q6xeCLWijYk/UC1P2a4Gh9I/AAAAAAAAAVg/vqMHVC0OVfk/s320/Emily.jpg" width="269" /></a></div>
Later on during the rest of the Guatemala speeches, I tried drawing my right leg to practice perspective organically:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Bmb46APQlTQ/UC1QHMvme3I/AAAAAAAAAVo/trQZqafdkhg/s1600/Right+Lower+Leg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Bmb46APQlTQ/UC1QHMvme3I/AAAAAAAAAVo/trQZqafdkhg/s320/Right+Lower+Leg.jpg" width="187" /></a></div>
The day after, we drove up back to the Bay Area, sadly no drawings to show...<br />
That's pretty much it for now, I will have to start school again in less than week. I do not know how heavy my workload will be this semester, but I do hope to continue drawing.hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-51481950720206139002012-07-24T20:34:00.001-07:002012-07-24T20:35:34.237-07:00Summer Drawings So FarI know I haven't been here for a long time... The first five weeks of summer was a whole semester packed in so little time, so a bit intense for just two simple classes... Afterwards I did a a few sketches from time to time.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1YjB6hUcsGs/UA9mktxHTUI/AAAAAAAAAUU/PcWmQg8gA6A/s1600/Sugar+Pacs+and+Glass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1YjB6hUcsGs/UA9mktxHTUI/AAAAAAAAAUU/PcWmQg8gA6A/s320/Sugar+Pacs+and+Glass.jpg" width="196" /></a></div>
Here is something I did at a Burger Meister while waiting for my order. Seems like the best times for me to sketch are when I need time to kill...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9aP5qxsKef4/UA9nmQhw3SI/AAAAAAAAAUc/o1CNEDGM4MU/s1600/Japantown+Resteruant.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9aP5qxsKef4/UA9nmQhw3SI/AAAAAAAAAUc/o1CNEDGM4MU/s320/Japantown+Resteruant.jpg" width="277" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kPh315NR9vE/UA9nph1sXbI/AAAAAAAAAUk/uxOGKGb8Kx0/s1600/Japantown+light+and+Jewel+Shop.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kPh315NR9vE/UA9nph1sXbI/AAAAAAAAAUk/uxOGKGb8Kx0/s320/Japantown+light+and+Jewel+Shop.jpg" width="224" /></a></div>
These I did at San Francisco Japantown while I was waiting for a friend (which was a few hours). I personally like how the bottom sketch turned out, though I think I can still do better. Since I haven't really been trying too much in sketching lately it's probably affecting my current performance in drawing.<br />
I did try drawing trees in the Arboretum in Golden Gate Park, but I do not wish to show the turn outs (they are really bad...).<br />
That is pretty much for now, I apologize for lack of updating, I guess I've just lost a little confidence in my drawing skills... I still wish to keep trying though, since I am taking a career path in interior design/architecture.<br />
<br />hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-2137152468055271452012-04-28T19:39:00.002-07:002012-04-28T19:40:43.506-07:00Extra Credit ProjectOkay, just yesterday I finished my basswood model of the Jobson House (or at least did enough to think it's done). Here are various photos of the model:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WqP9n8K0OGw/T5yo2oMluZI/AAAAAAAAATY/zbdiDFhlg_w/s1600/IMG_1410.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WqP9n8K0OGw/T5yo2oMluZI/AAAAAAAAATY/zbdiDFhlg_w/s320/IMG_1410.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n23NI-xJvps/T5yo-9EZpKI/AAAAAAAAATw/x-kelaJ0LfE/s1600/IMG_1413.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n23NI-xJvps/T5yo-9EZpKI/AAAAAAAAATw/x-kelaJ0LfE/s320/IMG_1413.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gl7bLa11Qt4/T5ypDnOSomI/AAAAAAAAAUA/56Z88_RGy1o/s1600/IMG_1415.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gl7bLa11Qt4/T5ypDnOSomI/AAAAAAAAAUA/56Z88_RGy1o/s320/IMG_1415.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CUiM4Oe5-bU/T5ypF4M255I/AAAAAAAAAUI/BoR_mUxI3_c/s1600/IMG_1416.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CUiM4Oe5-bU/T5ypF4M255I/AAAAAAAAAUI/BoR_mUxI3_c/s320/IMG_1416.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KqsJKvBcdb0/T5yo0E21FfI/AAAAAAAAATQ/Mlnpevl8wzo/s1600/IMG_1409.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KqsJKvBcdb0/T5yo0E21FfI/AAAAAAAAATQ/Mlnpevl8wzo/s320/IMG_1409.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'd do a picture of a section, but I don't feel like chopping my model in half just yet.... I know it's not perfect, but I kind of think it's a personal best in matters of model making. </div>

So that's pretty much it for now, the semester's almost over, but there's still work to be done between then. </div>

To be honest, I am still having second thoughts about switching majors, yet somehow I feel a little comfortable with the work I am currently doing. Honestly, this interior design work is NOT easy, it's almost a whole new level of difficulty, yet I kind of enjoy the work so far (maybe because I have had drafting practice back in high school).<br />
Anyway, right now we have been working on a 3D model of the Jobson House using a program called vectorworks; we are required to make a model of the exterior and interior in three dimensions, and then export the two floor plans, four elevations, and one section of the house into illustrator to add in extra detail. It's still a work in progress, but here's a little work in progress JPEG image:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Some of us in our design class have been working a basswood model of the house, it was originally suppose to be a final project but due to class scheduling difficulties, it's now just an extra credit project. Here are a few shoots of the model so far:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I originally wanted to use a special laser cutter in the school's wood shop, but I just decided to cut up everything with an exacto knife (had to glue back a lot the skinny wood parts that kept breaking off). I intend to add in some interior walls and the roof sometime soon. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That's pretty much it for now, I kind of wished I got back into drawing stuff... Been a little busy and distracted to just go out and draw out things for fun. I do hope to get back to you all soon on anything art related and whatnot.</div>hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-46719047384973012032012-03-10T13:19:00.000-08:002012-03-10T13:19:21.150-08:00The Jobson HouseStill not entirely sure what I should be doing with myself, for now I'm hoping to keep my options open for just about any career path I can think of...<br />
Anyway, right now in my interior design classes, we are working on drafting and modeling a house called the Jobson House, done by Charles Moore with Peter Hopkinson. It's suppose to be a summer house, or something like that. For drafting (in order), we had to draw out the ground floor plan, the second floor plan, four elevations (front, back, left, right), and a section (I choose to do the front section). They are not suppose to be too detailed just yet, we are just working on getting the measurements accurate and correct with the same line weight:<br />

For those who don't know, I just began my interior design classes this semester. One of my projects involved drawing a box full of fruit from the top and from the side in ten different ways:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tC4d2EsyOEc/Tzgp4APNR1I/AAAAAAAAAQA/LvWhp8z3W_Y/s1600/IMG_1312.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tC4d2EsyOEc/Tzgp4APNR1I/AAAAAAAAAQA/LvWhp8z3W_Y/s320/IMG_1312.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This is the line drawing of the top part of the box.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pgrtms9PcEU/Tzgp6-bRAFI/AAAAAAAAAQI/LH0bEHc_9I8/s1600/IMG_1313.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pgrtms9PcEU/Tzgp6-bRAFI/AAAAAAAAAQI/LH0bEHc_9I8/s320/IMG_1313.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This is a rendered drawing of the top (my personal favorite).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4QY6Bf8HNQo/Tzgp9oVMKfI/AAAAAAAAAQQ/K6tdEbRhgeo/s1600/IMG_1314.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4QY6Bf8HNQo/Tzgp9oVMKfI/AAAAAAAAAQQ/K6tdEbRhgeo/s320/IMG_1314.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> This is suppose be the figure ground of the top (all objects in the box shaded in).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NCq8ubxZkWI/Tzgp_1RawfI/AAAAAAAAAQY/41fGuz6C0uo/s1600/IMG_1315.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NCq8ubxZkWI/Tzgp_1RawfI/AAAAAAAAAQY/41fGuz6C0uo/s320/IMG_1315.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> This one is suppose to be a reverse figure ground (all negative space shaded in).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k7Qocom1Kg0/TzgqCMRm0GI/AAAAAAAAAQg/lBo76zOr9ik/s1600/IMG_1316.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k7Qocom1Kg0/TzgqCMRm0GI/AAAAAAAAAQg/lBo76zOr9ik/s320/IMG_1316.JPG" width="240" /></a></div> This is just a line drawing of the side (don't ask me why it's side ways).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aTrhPcLy09c/TzgqEPMiYYI/AAAAAAAAAQo/5jxfiIPkzi8/s1600/IMG_1317.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aTrhPcLy09c/TzgqEPMiYYI/AAAAAAAAAQo/5jxfiIPkzi8/s320/IMG_1317.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> This is a rendered drawing of the box sideways.<br />
After drawing those six drawings, we had to cut the box in half and draw out the shown slices, like in actual architecture.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dE7cN0u8Gsw/TzgqGJupqXI/AAAAAAAAAQw/qKCN5BjcITY/s1600/IMG_1318.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dE7cN0u8Gsw/TzgqGJupqXI/AAAAAAAAAQw/qKCN5BjcITY/s320/IMG_1318.JPG" width="240" /></a></div> This is the line drawing of the half box (don't ask me why it's sideways).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oZL2njpw-xU/TzgqIvW0CuI/AAAAAAAAAQ4/TBzP0ZfYvsQ/s1600/IMG_1319.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oZL2njpw-xU/TzgqIvW0CuI/AAAAAAAAAQ4/TBzP0ZfYvsQ/s320/IMG_1319.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> This is the rendered drawing of the sliced box, with fruit starting to ripe.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-b2Z8Gc5xuLk/TzgqKSermZI/AAAAAAAAARA/L7QQXIQKBg4/s1600/IMG_1320.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-b2Z8Gc5xuLk/TzgqKSermZI/AAAAAAAAARA/L7QQXIQKBg4/s320/IMG_1320.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> This is the figure ground of the half box.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JIizDVPfVXI/TzgqMmzBdPI/AAAAAAAAARI/DPgOvign5Cg/s1600/IMG_1321.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JIizDVPfVXI/TzgqMmzBdPI/AAAAAAAAARI/DPgOvign5Cg/s320/IMG_1321.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>This is the reverse figure ground of the sliced box (don't ask me why it's sideways).<br />
In another project, we had to buy basswood and cut into specific pieces based on the instructions our professor gave us:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5NMwjTInVwA/TzgsblOn0lI/AAAAAAAAARY/HPjN1n3v5jc/s1600/IMG_1322.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5NMwjTInVwA/TzgsblOn0lI/AAAAAAAAARY/HPjN1n3v5jc/s320/IMG_1322.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Basswood: 16 posts: 1/4" x 1/4" x 3"<br />
16 cubes: 1" x 1" x 1"<br />
8 half panels: 1 1/2" x 3" x 1/4"<br />
8 panels: 3" x 3" x 1/4"<br />
Plywood: 1 base: 12" x 12" x 1/2"<br />
Had to them in wood shop, it was not easy (really intimidating) but it was a good experience to get under my belt. <br />
That's pretty much it for now, I'll let you know any other projects I do (school or personal) hopefully sometime soon.hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-86198007901465733172012-01-03T22:59:00.000-08:002012-01-03T22:59:02.842-08:00AbsentJust wanted to explain my absence from posting... now I'm starting to reconsider doing this blog anymore...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">During the week before Christmas day, I had to do some Christmas shopping for my family, plus I had to finish a drawing for a secret santa gift exchange I participated in on facebook.</span> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KPqe085W0rA/TwPxiMb-2nI/AAAAAAAAAP4/1vU1mObgYoI/s1600/Secret+Santa+Drawing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="232" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KPqe085W0rA/TwPxiMb-2nI/AAAAAAAAAP4/1vU1mObgYoI/s320/Secret+Santa+Drawing.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The week after was mostly a little week vacation, I did a few sketches and scribbles here and there, but I'm not too happy to post them. In all honesty, I think I just lost my inspiration to draw... or I'm just having a lot of trouble getting started again. Hopefully this is just a passing thing that I'll eventually get over, like everything else. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">According to many of my colleagues, art professors, and some professional artists, many tend to think that their own art work is never good enough (mainly a sense of modesty). Strangely, this is natural thing, since the key to growing and getting better at something is to fail and keep learning from your mistakes. Yet many tend to take failure as a negative thing, since many of us probably think we're being judged based on success or failure in school and life in general. Though that's natural too, since we all want to be successful and great at what we each choose to do. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Anyway, I'll try to get back to you all sometime this week with something... but if I stop posting entirely don't be surprised...</div>hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-21230523335547114442011-12-14T23:37:00.000-08:002011-12-14T23:37:16.743-08:00Done... With finals, so now I'm free for about 5 weeks. I hope to be able to dedicate these few weeks off to drawing; particularly still lives and possibly drafting, and maybe a few cartoons every now and again.<br />
Anyway, back to typing out my issues on my changing majors decision... I'm confident enough to say that I'm still confused with what I should be doing with myself. I keep thinking back and forth, whether what I decided was right or wrong, just like I do with every damn decision I ever make in my life. I think maybe the few regrets I feel about this is not having the confidence I used to have about doing animation and the thought of leaving the good friends I have made in the program. Even though I'm not actually leaving, I feel like I'm walking out on something and just quitting. Though sometimes I think of myself as the many people who try for the program and just end up getting shot down because there is something missing that they just can't grasp. Don't get me wrong, I love to draw, that's why I tried for animation and/or illustration as a major... I could state why I changed, but I may sound like someone discouraging others for trying. To the people who read this and want to try for something like animation/illustration, go for it! Through experience and learning, you'll know whether this is something you want to do with yourself as a career. Or you could end up like me... it's your life, not mine.<br />
Honestly, when I first came into this program, I kind of hoped to become an illustrator/comic book artist. In my second year, my thoughts for career turned to animating for an animation studio. Now, strangely, it's turning to interior design (or something in architecture). Maybe I'm just too concerned about my artwork not being good enough for the entertainment business, or maybe I'm just realizing my own flaws and strengths in matters of art. Whatever the reason, this just either proves how indecisive I am, or how much a person can change over a few years in college.<br />
Just a side note, it helps to have good friends and family who are willing to support and encourage you in your decisions. So I owe a thanks to my good friends (both A/I and regular) for being supportive enough to keep me in this far and accepting my decision (even though it's crazy...) and to my own family for always supporting and encouraging my decisions; I would never even be here if it weren't for them.<br />
I still can't say whether I'll stick with interior design or decide to try animation again, all I can really do is take everything one step and one day at a time (that's what my dad tells me almost every time I talk to him). That's technically all we can do as humans on this planet, make the most out of each day of our lives until we die.hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-13216906726167725862011-11-09T21:25:00.000-08:002011-11-09T21:25:26.232-08:00Decisions 2Thanks to the people who left comments here and on facebook. I'm still going through identity issues right now, I start thinking one way and then I think another... It's just tough when you know you have very little time to decide... I did a little exploring, and I'm starting to lean more towards interior design as a major.<br />
I know a lot of good friends have been telling me not to go and even asking why, I'm actually still not too sure myself what I should do... I just feel like my reasons for going through the animation program was all wrong... Like many students, I just really enjoyed drawing cartoons and thought this would be a wonderland job (which of course is not). Through my experience, I've learned that drawing well was not something professors could teach you, it's something you must teach yourself and it's something you must dedicate to if you wish to be a professional. It takes a lot of passion and confidence (along with selfishness) in order to go through such a tough program like animation, which is something I'm beginning to lose...<br />
From what I've heard from interior design, it has a balance of art and the idea of constructing something for real life; there's also a little understanding of spacing, lighting, and a passion for building things. Personally, I think that's something I want to do as a career, a little balance with what I enjoy doing (plus I took an architecture class in high school to give me little understanding about drafting). I still like animation, heck, maybe I'll decide by the end of spring that I want to switch back. Though right now I want to at least try this out, and possibly keep animation/illustration as something to do for fun.<br />
Anyway, to all the A/I friends I have gotten to know, I just want to let you know that you've all been great friends, in fact you're all like a second family to me. I think it's really the sad thought of leaving you all is what has been making it hard for me to decide... I will still technically be in the art and design program, so I hope that we can stay in touch. And you never know, if I can pull through this new major, maybe I'll be able to design an animation studio and get to see some of you (that's kind of a dream goal right now).hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-56979691958404756832011-11-03T16:59:00.000-07:002011-11-03T16:59:23.061-07:00DecisionsOkay, I know I haven't posted in a while... the truth is I'm starting to have doubts about my drawing skills. I've been trying and trying to get better at figure drawing, but I just don't see anything (in fact I think I'm getting worse). Maybe it's just the overloading work load I'm having, or something, whatever it is it's making me rethink about trying for Animation as a career.<br />
I used to enjoy drawing, at least the last few semesters when I could draw for fun, but now that it's coming down to the big leagues, I'm just not so sure anymore. The hardest thing about all this is that I've managed to improve to the point where I can impress non-art people (friends and family), but I'm not at the professional level I should be... plus I'm afraid of leaving and/or having second thoughts about actually changing.<br />
Honestly, I know I shouldn't be the one complaining about this, since there are upper classmen who are dealing with more hell than I could imagine (then again they choose to). I guess I'm just worried about actually getting in the program (not that I can at the moment) and then having regrets.<br />
I'm still thinking about it, I have been thinking about doing something in architecture if I decide to change... but of course I'm still undecided. I still want to draw and grow (that's the whole reason I made this blog), just maybe in a way that it can be used a stress reliever rather than something to stress over.<br />
If anyone has any say about this, feel free to comment or anything.hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-29641506738820155062011-10-27T22:34:00.000-07:002011-10-27T22:34:30.762-07:00Fall Drawing Day #59, #60, #61, & #62Another busy week, been a bit preoccupied with a bunch of other assignments and such to keep me from drawing on my own...<br />
Monday I ended up with three animation projects to work on, which kept me from going to figure drawing that day...<br />
Tuesday was my catch up day, I had work on 3D animation projects along with studying for the art history exam the next day. In between, I worked in my anatomy book (which seems to sadly be the only thing I have time to draw on my own), this is a copy of a master with anatomy done over it with Netter's Anatomy as reference:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-87f1TmnhCLM/Tqo735SxbmI/AAAAAAAAANE/e_ZKdZehDSk/s1600/Leg+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-87f1TmnhCLM/Tqo735SxbmI/AAAAAAAAANE/e_ZKdZehDSk/s320/Leg+2.jpg" width="140" /></a></div>Wednesday I had my exam and animation critique, I only did a few gesture tracings.... though those can only take me so far.<br />
Today I got to meet up with some friends to practice gesture drawing for a bit, though I'm really not happy with any of my gestures. The rest of the day I started working on my art history term essay, along with a little 3D animation work. My dad stopped by in the evening, so we had dinner together and walked for a bit.<br />
I know I've said this thousands of times, but I'm still questioning my choices in whether I want to do this as a career or not... I know no matter what I choose, I'm going to facing lots of stress and anxiety, so why am I even questioning this?hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-65592167362485681752011-10-23T21:06:00.000-07:002011-10-23T21:07:35.526-07:00Fall Drawing #56, #57, & #58Still working on my figure drawing, right now I'm trying to master gesture...<br />

It's times like these I question why I'm trying for this; I even thought about changing to another major. But after some thinking and talking to some friends and family, I figured this is just a phase everyone goes through, no matter what major or career one chooses, and I'm just going to have to deal with it... Even if I don't make it, at least I can say I gained good experience from it as an artist. </div><div>Saturday I had to do studying for another art history exam Wednesday (which can sadly be time-consuming). I also did gesture traces, I hope to put more action into my figures. Other than that, I went to one of my friend's birthday party (probably a bad idea, but a good way to catch a little break).</div><div>Today was more studying, along with a leg anatomy study; this I did copying a figure from my textbook and using Netter's anatomy cards to understand the leg muscles:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wKRrnfzIpgg/TqTirsblxZI/AAAAAAAAAM0/ym772UaUb6c/s1600/Leg+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wKRrnfzIpgg/TqTirsblxZI/AAAAAAAAAM0/ym772UaUb6c/s320/Leg+1.jpg" width="196" /></a></div><div>I used colored pencil on the muscle to make it fancy, though I'm still unsure if the proportions are correct. Later I went to do a drapery study (I usually do it with other art students, but today it was just me):</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Z1lSLwpq8xc/TqTjJ6ijrBI/AAAAAAAAAM8/fgduiGhWBsw/s1600/Drapery+Study+8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Z1lSLwpq8xc/TqTjJ6ijrBI/AAAAAAAAAM8/fgduiGhWBsw/s320/Drapery+Study+8.jpg" width="215" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>I kind of like how the left side turned out, I really tried to work in contrast. I'm not too sure about the right side, I had some hard times with shading due to the poor lighting work I did with the drapery. </div><div>This week I hope to get more of a positive attitude and just draw for fun, which may hopefully bring a little more confidence in my work. </div>hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-83704413594325636172011-10-18T21:21:00.000-07:002011-10-18T21:21:29.737-07:00Fall Drawing Day #51, #52 & #53First off, I'd like to thank all the people who left critiques and advice for my last blog, I found it really helpful in matters of figure drawing. Still, I question whether I have what it takes to make it to the big leagues... Maybe it's just because of a portfolio review requirement for the A/I program at my university; some say it is not as bad as one may think, but there seems to be something that the professors are looking for in a students work that many fear they are missing.<br />
I still remember one of my professors telling me not to give up my dream, yet I wonder: what is my dream? I think the main reason I wanted to go into illustration/animation was because I wanted to do a job that involved something I enjoyed doing, though I did had a slight idea that it was going to be a tough career path to take. Honestly I've thought many times whether I should try for something else or not.... but the one thing that's keeping me here are my A/I friends. If it weren't for them, making me and everyone around feeling like a big happy family, I probably would not still be around. So I owe a big thanks to everyone in the A/I for keeping me here. Even if I don't make it, I won't give up, at least without a fight.<br />
Anyway, enough of my boring speech. Sunday, I had to work a little on my animation, along with some gesture tracing. I did get to do a drapery study, which I spent around 3 hours on:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5DaVMuZJVGY/Tp5OK_b4j2I/AAAAAAAAAL8/xaMadsdYGKA/s1600/Drapery+Study+7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5DaVMuZJVGY/Tp5OK_b4j2I/AAAAAAAAAL8/xaMadsdYGKA/s320/Drapery+Study+7.jpg" width="210" /></a></div>I'm still working on gradation and value, though I still find it hard to make things "click."<br />
Afterwards, I worked a little in my anatomy book, I worked on the back, this is a copy from my textbook:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MA-y6zAIFl4/Tp5O7Gp1tOI/AAAAAAAAAME/JVKpzxEGXKU/s1600/Torso+7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MA-y6zAIFl4/Tp5O7Gp1tOI/AAAAAAAAAME/JVKpzxEGXKU/s320/Torso+7.jpg" width="205" /></a></div>I kind of like the turn out, though that's just me...<br />
Monday was my busy day, I did go to figure drawing and asked for critiques here and there. I got a couple of helpful advice, so I hope to apply to my future figure drawings, if I can take it all in and whatnot.<br />
Today I bought some anatomy flash cards, <u>Netter's Anatomy</u> (much cheaper than the actual book). I had to work a little with my 3D animation, but I did get a chance to draw out the skull, both front and lateral view:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LNKc5zFgDUs/Tp5PhfJSBjI/AAAAAAAAAMM/EeZftujVMBo/s1600/Skull+6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LNKc5zFgDUs/Tp5PhfJSBjI/AAAAAAAAAMM/EeZftujVMBo/s320/Skull+6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> These were done in colored pencil, I tried adding a little value to match the cards a bit. Sometime, I hope to take some of my figure drawings and apply some anatomy to it, using anatomy cards as reference. First, however, I have to master the fundamentals... this I find ironic (how I still need to work on animating the human figure when I'm working on anatomy).hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877228142730740686.post-14182194006932570282011-10-15T23:00:00.000-07:002011-10-15T23:00:12.799-07:00Fall Drawing Day #46, #49, & #50I haven't really been feeling too good about my drawing skills, which is bad because when one thinks he/she can't draw, they literally can't....<br />
I kind of need some feedback and critique for my figure drawings, so here's some I did Monday and Friday:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z00qGbNffP8/TppwtPcolHI/AAAAAAAAALU/52GhJx1MFzk/s1600/IMG_1226.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z00qGbNffP8/TppwtPcolHI/AAAAAAAAALU/52GhJx1MFzk/s320/IMG_1226.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-F4GUpDBZFYI/TppwwF6RIII/AAAAAAAAALc/qXjxamw3-aY/s1600/IMG_1227.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-F4GUpDBZFYI/TppwwF6RIII/AAAAAAAAALc/qXjxamw3-aY/s320/IMG_1227.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BriAzcLItjA/Tppwy4eC2XI/AAAAAAAAALk/L4IrjAIgxZY/s1600/IMG_1228.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BriAzcLItjA/Tppwy4eC2XI/AAAAAAAAALk/L4IrjAIgxZY/s320/IMG_1228.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aoBvxjvViKk/Tppw1qK7bnI/AAAAAAAAALs/2spm0h_zNus/s1600/IMG_1229.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aoBvxjvViKk/Tppw1qK7bnI/AAAAAAAAALs/2spm0h_zNus/s320/IMG_1229.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>I know they're incomplete, with bad anatomy and construction, along with poor line quality, but I need to know what I should do to fix them... so I can improve the future figure drawings I plan to do.<br />
This whole week has been kind of busy for me, so I didn't get too many chances to draw on my own... Thursday I got a chance to work a little in my anatomy book, though I'm not really too sure about it now...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GqRSVmWtQqQ/Tppx9C3UpVI/AAAAAAAAAL0/qi__ITA0p0k/s1600/Arm+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GqRSVmWtQqQ/Tppx9C3UpVI/AAAAAAAAAL0/qi__ITA0p0k/s320/Arm+3.jpg" width="232" /></a></div>Today I had to go to an art museum to study some works of art for my Art History class... which took quite a bit of time getting there and back... Plus my family came over to visit, so I got some chances to practice drawing out human figures from life, though I really don't like the turn out...<br />
For next couple of days, depending on school work and what not, I plan to practice drawing out the human figure, with some little hope of improvement...hannahduenwaldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14929051971795409019noreply@blogger.com3
