Fall Drawing Day #4

I know this is late, but I figured I should try to post this up anyway.
Yesterday I've been a little busy shopping for supplies and cleaning my apartment... but I managed to get in a drapery study drawing for one of my art classes:
It may be a little hard to tell at first, but it's suppose to be a short sleeved sweater. I personally liked how the outline and folds turned out, the curves seem to give off a little life to this. There are a few areas which I do wish to improve in... Anyway, if anyone has any comments or suggests, feel free to post.

Fall Drawing Day #2 & #3

I should seriously rename this blog, since it's no longer summer time, and I'm still updating...
I don't really have much to say about the last few days, it's just been a little stressful and busy getting everything started up again, just like with everything in life. Anyway, here's some stuff I did yesterday for an art class:
I kind of liked how the fountain above and the cube below turned out, in matter of value at least. I need to get back into drawing out perspective and value.
And here's somethings I did just today, these were done before my art class:
And these were done during art class:
I'm still not too comfortable with my figure drawing, I need to work on proportions and cross counters (or at least ways to make the figure more three dimensional). I do hope to get better these next few months, so if anyone has any suggestions and/or critiques, please do not hesitate to post it up. The only way one can grow, is to learn the mistakes he/she makes in order to correct them.

Summer Drawing Day #84 & Fall Drawing Day #1

Yesterday was a bit of a busy day before the official day of fall classes. I only got a chance to do a gesture of a person and my left hand:
I'm really not happy with how these turned out... it actually got me a little stressed out about my progress.
Today, I've been mostly busy handling my classes, so I didn't really get much of a chance to just sit and draw, except in one of my art classes:

I think I need to review the human figure again sometime, hopefully I'll be able to find the chance to do so even with all the work coming up.

Summer Drawing Day #82 & #83

Nothing special... just been a little busy preparing myself for the upcoming fall semester, which is probably going to be pretty busy.
Here's some things I did yesterday:
Really need to keep up the consistency of drawing figures and perspective...
Anyway, here's what I did today, just a drawing of my hand:
To me, the fingers look too big and distorted, but that's what practice is for. Tomorrow is going to my last official day of summer, but I'm going to try to keep drawing everyday (depending on school work and scheduling). So, just be sure to stick around if you can.

Summer Drawing Day #80 & #81

Yesterday was mostly preparing for the big move today, but I managed to get in a few things:
The top is a part of a water heater at home, and the bottom is a leaf I found at a local shopping mall. Mostly just practice in getting in big details to make it look somewhat realistic. Plus it was a chance to practice a little perspective.
Today I was busy moving things in to my apartment; checking in to on-campus apartments is like going through the DMV, only the people there ACTUALLY want to work and help people out. I managed to get in a little something at a Chinese restaurant:
Can't say I'm too pleased with it, I'm still having a little trouble with gestures and getting in the figure correctly. I've been unpacking and moving about for most of the day... which is exhausting... hopefully I'll come up with something better tomorrow, when I have more energy to spare.

Summer Drawing Day #79

I'll be completely honest, I've been kind of out of it for the past few days (possibly because of stress for heading back to school and car lag from the long road trip). Tuesday I didn't do a thing, I was still feeling tired and dizzy from the road trip... or at least that's what I think it was. Wednesday, I had to work on something for a fan site I'm a part of, and spent most the day making music videos with a Windows Live Movie Maker. For today, I got a chance to go out for lunch with my dad, and I managed to get in part of a person before the food arrived:
There was another person in the way, which is why he's incomplete. I was mostly just trying to get in the gesture along with proportions (though it doesn't look like it). I remember one of my art professors telling my class that it's good to have a sketchbook of horrible drawings, cause failure is the best way for one to keep growing. Sometimes I question that theory, but it does make sense in the long run, it's just hard sometimes to see your own progress from your own point of view.
Moving on, I decided to try cartooning again (don't ask why, I don't really know either). This time I based this picture off of a drawing from a graphic novel, I'm not going to say which, but you may be able to find out if you know it. Warning: if you find naked girls offensive, you don't have to look at this... and... please don't think badly of me for this:
This was mainly practice to... bring out a little sexuality for certain female roles. Plus this was good chance to practice drawing out an illustration, along with bringing in a little more detail with colored pencils.
Anyway, I plan to move back to campus on Saturday, so I may need to prepare myself by packing tomorrow. Though I'll try to come up with something; cross fingers.

Summer Drawing Day #70 through #75

I'm back from my vacation, and I got a lot of drawings to post, so I'll try to keep it as short and sweet as I can.
Day #70:
We had to drive about 6 hours to get to Ventura. Along the way, we stopped by a restaurant, where I got the chance to draw some people and a few objects.
After we got settled, we went downtown for a little for dinner and coffee.
Day #71:
We had to drive another 2 hours to get to our hotel in Ontario. We stopped to get lunch along the way.
In the evening, we went to see my older brother at, what my parents like to call, a depressing mall... we also went out to dinner (where I got a chance to draw more people).
Day #72:
We went to Griffith Park that day, or at least the other side of it (it still had an amazing view and landscapes). We then decided to had down to farmers market afterwards.
Later, we went to Chevy's for dinner, where I got to do some drawings.
Plus I got a chance to draw in my hotel room.
Day #73:
We went to the beach that day, where I got a chance to do lots of body boarding. After that, we went to a mall in Fullerton, where I did a life drawing and a still life drawing.
Day #74:
We went to Frank and Sons collectors show (LOTS of collectibles, though I was hoping to find a little more graphic novels to browse through). We then went to Little Tokyo where they had a Tanabata Festival. All I managed to get in was a life drawing and a drawing of the hotel pool.
Day #75:
We all decided to go swimming in the pool in the morning before heading to an Indian buffet restaurant. Afterwards, we headed over to Chino to find a dutch oven for my older brother; along with some cloth shopping. In between, I tried drawing a shopping cart (which was hard because people kept taking it).
For today, we spent the whole day driving (at least my dad, I helped drive part way). I spent the rest of the day sleeping, even though I felt really dizzy and sick. I might try to come up with something tonight, but that's a BIG maybe.

Summer Drawing Day #69

Wish I could say I did something special today... Today was my friend's birthday, so we spent the whole day together; taking pictures, walking around, and talking. I did do a little life drawing of a person, but I'm not too pleased with it to post it up.
Actually, the real reason I'm doing a post is just to let you all know that I'm going on a one week vacation to Southern California (just in case I don't get any internet access to post my stuff, so you all will know why). I do hope to get in some drawings while down there, I'll be sure to let you all know when I can.
And while I'm here, I'd like to thank all the people who have followed and viewed my blog up to this point, I really appreciate it, even though it's nothing too impressive. It was thanks to you that I've been able to be pretty productive this summer in order to get better at drawing.

Summer Drawing Day #67 & #68

I haven't really been that productive drawing-wise... I've just been spending SO much time outside with my dad.
Yesterday, we went to the driving range to hit golf balls in the morning, hiked along the coast of Pacifica in the afternoon, and walked along the ocean beach at night. I did manage to draw out a sign during a little break in the middle of our short hike:
Today I did two short walks by myself (in the morning and in the evening), and went on a long one with my dad at the park in the afternoon. All I managed to get today was the condiments at the restaurant we ate at tonight:
Not the best, mostly a still life practice for a short period of time.
I hope to get in some life drawings tomorrow... depending if I'm willing to "stop and smell the roses," or in this case DRAW.

Summer Drawing Day #66

Yesterday was a little exhausting... but really fun. Before the Giant's game with the Phillies, I decided to try doing a drapery drawing, with bed sheets:
I kind of over did it... I told myself to just do one portion of the sheets, but I ended up doing almost the whole thing in order to fill up a 9 x 12 page. I spent about an hour and a half doing it, I think if I putted in a little more time and effort, it would have came out a little better...
For the game, I drew quite a bit of stuff:
The baby didn't turn out the way I hoped... but it was really cute, I just wanted to try drawing him out. Plus since I was at a baseball game, I figured I should at least draw the baseball diamond.
There was a kid sitting in front of me with a weird hairstyle, my mom asked me to draw him for laughs. The Bay Bridge a little tricky, because I drew it from a really far distance... I ended up missing an inning where the Phillies scored 4 runs.
And for those who missed the game, there a little fight in the top of the 6th inning. The Giant's pitcher hit one of the Phillies' batter and everyone just charged in as a group like a crowded fight. Here's a picture of one moment in the fight:
It was pretty intense... you may be able to find a video of it on youtube or someplace (lots of people pulled out their cameras just to capture this moment).
So, overall, a pretty productive day...

Summer Drawing Day #64 & #65

Yesterday I was a little productive in a bunch of other things... I learned how to make bread pudding from my mom, I biked around my neighborhood, and I wasted hours of videos games until my thumbs were completely sore. I did, however, started on a group drawing yesterday, featuring some of the characters I made up.
On Sunday, I did a little photo shoot with my parents in order to get references on poses. Here are the photos:
I'd like to thank them again for participating, not many are brave enough to actually get their own picture taken...
For today, I finished up the group drawing (sketching, inking, coloring, EVERYTHING). Here's the drawing:
From left to right: Hugo (the anamorphic polar bear), Charcoal (the anamorphic house cat), Chris Matsumotto, Eclair (the anamorphic hedgehog), and Jenny Thompson.
I'm a little proud of it, though now that I look at it I can see a couple of things that need correcting (though I don't plan to point them out). This was mostly just practice drawing out more than one person and/or thing for one whole picture/illustration, and making every little detail good. That's probably one of the many things I need to work on...
For tomorrow, my parents and I will be going to the Giants game, so I'll try to get in some drawings in AT&T Park, along with some other things if possible.

Summer Drawing Day #63

Today wasn't too special... I just went out for a little and drew some people in a book store:
They were really hard to do, since they weren't able to hold still long enough... I still seem to have a hard time pushing the gesture in people, along with construction and form...

Summer Drawing Day #61 & #62

Yesterday, sadly, I didn't get to do to much because my McAfee security system had to perform a full scan on my laptop, which took a couple of hours. Plus later on, I learned that it was also causing some of my images to disappear (or send to hidden folders) when I tried adjusting them, so I had to fix that too. I did get a chance to draw a shopping cart around Traders Joes:
It wasn't really done well, because a woman took it while I still working out the perspectives and details. So, I had to improvise... I also drew over some people in magazines, just for practice drawing people out.
For today, I worked a bit on cartooning. Strangely, this took up most of the day:
I personally liked how it turned out, at least with Charcoal (AKA the cat upside down). Because hands are still an issue for me, I did a little practice with my own today:
It still appears a little flat (or maybe a lot), but I kind of think it is starting to develop a little more dimension.
Less than a month left of summer, at least for me, better make the most out of it.
